Episode 15 - Cyberwalker Mondays
Andy, Mike and callers cover:
- HDTV tuners – any available to purchase? It's better to rent for now.
- Backing up VHS onto DVDs – Andy recommends ADR, available at Future Shop or Best Buy.
- A caller's fifteen-year-old son infested a computer with pop-ups – Use Windows Defender, or if you want to spend money, Pest Patrol, to clear it up.
- Upgrade the graphics on a computer with an integrated video card – simply pop the new card into the AGP or PCI-E slot if it's a relatively new computer – don't worry about getting messy with motherboard and BIOS settings. If you want to play Age of Empires 2003, Andy says a video card with 128MB of RAM should be fine.
- Looking for a PVR – A Hauppage device is probably your best bet over ATI capture cards . However, Andy says grab your passport, cross the boarder, and buy a Tivo in the U.S. Why? They now work in Canada.
- Running Windows ME and want to upgrade? Don't wait for the next Microsoft operating system, Windows Vista, because your machine probably won't be able to handle it. If the ME machine has 512 MB of RAM or more, get XP.
- Plus, Andy is pumped about plans to blanket Toronto's downtown core with WiFi.
No audio this week as I had a failed recording. Sorry 'bout that.
